Ductless Air Conditioner Repair

There are a number of advantages to using a ductless type of system for your air conditioning needs, but there are also unique qualities of the systems, too. They are not necessarily bad qualities, but rather just factors to be aware of when you choose a ductless air conditioner over a more traditional central system.

The main reason it’s important to be aware of these unique qualities is so that you’ll understand how essential it is that your ductless system is installed by highly trained and experienced professionals. Keep reading to learn more about their unique repair needs.

Water Leaks Behind Air Handlers

Each of the wall-mounted air handler units houses a series of connections, which are routed through a hold behind each air handler and include a power line, refrigerant line, and condensate line. This last line is tasked with removing water moisture from the cooling process so that moisture doesn’t enter your living space instead.

It’s possible for this line to leak, though. And when water or other fluid (like the refrigerant) starts to develop between the air handler and the wall, the material of that wall will begin weakening, until it eventually causes the air handler to rip from the wall, and likely fall off. Of course, this damages your actual property—not to mention it will likely cause the air handler to break, too.

Broken Air Handlers

There’s good news and bad news with a broken air handler. The bad news is, obviously, a broken air handler means no cooling in that particular room. The good news, however, is that if a single air handler breaks down due to a failed motor or some other isolated problem, the remaining air handlers throughout the home will still continue to run.

The only part of your home that loses cooling, in this case, is the room that houses that broken air handler. You’ll still want to call for repairs, of course, but you won’t need to worry about your whole house losing out on comfort just because of one air handler.

Refrigerant Leaks

We mentioned this briefly above, and it’s one of those problems that can be detrimental to any type of air conditioner. But the risk is particularly higher with a ductless system due to the way your refrigerant lines run through the home. Not only will your ductless AC system be affected, but your property can actually sustain damage as well.

Like any air conditioning system, it is important that you have your ductless mini split air conditioning system maintained on an annual basis. Without regular maintenance, your system will quickly fall into disarray. That can result in a number of problems like inefficient heating, or an excessive need for repairs. Our expert AC technicians will diagnose any rising issues and provide the tune–up services necessary to keep your system in top shape throughout the year.

Ductless Air Conditioner Replacement

Ductless air conditioners, like all systems, have a natural lifespan. There will come a point when no matter how well you’ve taken care of it, you’ll have to replace your ductless system. What is important is that you recognize the signs that your ductless air conditioner is nearing the end of its lifespan.  That way, you can have it replaced before it gives out on you. Let’s take a look at some of the signs that your ductless air conditioner needs to be replaced.

Rising Operating Costs

As a system gets older, the various parts inside it will start to wear out. This causes them to perform less well over time, which in turn causes your system to perform less well as a whole. An older ductless system will have to stay on for a longer period of time to affect the same temperature changes, which will result in higher operating costs. If your cost to operate your ductless system is rising for no apparent reason, you may need to replace it.

Rise in Repair Needs

Healthy ductless air conditioners typically don’t need repairs more than once a year, if that. Older systems, though, have worn-out parts that are far more likely to fail during normal operation. These parts tend to fail in groups, leading to far more frequent repair needs. If you need to have your ductless air conditioner repaired every few months, you definitely need to replace it.

Age

Once a ductless air conditioner gets older than 10 or 15 years, it starts to develop problems like the ones listed above. You can continue using a ductless system that is older than that, but you’ll likely spend far more than the system is work in repairs. Once your system gets that old, you should replace it.

If you need to have your ductless air conditioner replaced, call American Veteran Heating & Air. We serve the entire Colorado Springs, CO area.
